Blackwing Machinery offers a variety of services at all stages of a product's life, from design and prototyping all the way to repair and restoration. Lawnmower and snowblower repair are our bread and butter, but we welcome more complex and artistic projects.
Computer-Aided Design
We specialize in parametric modeling software to design components for prototyping and mass production. Check out our gallery of 3D designs to see the level of complexity of models and drawings that we can produce for you.
3D Printing
Our 3D printing technician has over a decade of experience with various types of additive manufacturing processes. We currently use the Formlabs Form 3 resin printer to make prototypes, custom products, and wax patterns for investment casting. Check out our gallery of 3D prints to see what we can make for you.
Turning
Our 13x36 inch South Bend lathe may be old, but it runs as well as ever! Check out our gallery of machined components to see what we can make for you. We also have a wood-turning lathe in case you need replacement knobs or tool handles.
Milling
Our milling machine is fully equipped to make some of the most complex parts that can be machined manually, such as gears. One of our staples is lawnmower repair, so check out our gallery of repair projects to see an example of a simple milling job getting a machine from useless to back in working order in a few short hours.
Welding & Torch Cutting
We are equipped for stick welding, wire welding (both MIG and flux-core), TIG welding (DC and AC - yes we do aluminum!), oxy-acetylene welding and cutting, and plasma cutting.
Fabrication
We specialize in finer forms of metalworking and have the capability to hand-form complex pieces, but our staple is decorative scrolls for use in items such as custom light fixtures and signs.
Tool & Blade Sharpening
Our work van is equipped with a WorkSharp wood chisel sharpener, which also does an excellent job of sharpening other types of blades, a WorkSharp belt grinder, and a Drill Doctor, so we can come to you for most of your sharpening needs! Back at the shop, we have more sophisticated equipment for sharpening carbide turning tools and other types of cutters.
